Flood Hazard Map

OUR FLOOD HISTORY: The Calgary area has always been at risk of flooding because we are situated where two mountain rivers meet (the Bow and Elbow rivers). As the city grew, the desire to live near the river outweighed our perception of flood risk. Today, several of our oldest and culturally vibrant communities, as well as entertainment and recreational attractions, are in our river valleys. These include downtown, Chinatown, East Village, the Beltline, Sunnyside/Hillhurst, Inglewood, Bowness, Elbow Park, Rideau/Roxboro, the Stampede grounds, the zoo and others. 2013 FLOOD On June 20, 2013, heavy rainfall and mountain snowmelt caused river levels to quickly rise, causing rapid and widespread flooding in southern Alberta. This was Calgary’s largest flood since 1897. Five lives were lost in our province from this disaster. Evacuees and people with flooded homes faced trauma and loss. They either had to rebuild or faced permanent loss of their home. Flooding disrupted businesses, damaged critical infrastructure and led to power outages. Calgary has since implemented stronger flood mitigation and prevention measures throughout the city but purchasing a home in the floodway or flood fringe zones come with some additional risk. Insurance premiums are higher in these communities and some stigma remains in the minds of buyers when considering their purchase. *Note: After clicking on the link, you'll need to zoom the map into Calgary before the flood zone and the flood fringe zones start showing up

CBE Designated Schools by Community

This is the Calgary Board of Education's designated school list for each community in Calgary. This is a great way to quickly reference which school is designated for each grade level, for each community.

School Rankings throughout Alberta

School report cards are prepared and published by the Fraser Institute. The Fraser Institute's school report cards offer detailed tables showing how well schools performed in academics over a number of years. By combining a variety of relevant, objective indicators of school performance into one easily accessible public web site, the school report cards allow teachers, parents, school administrators, students, and taxpayers to analyze and compare the academic performance of individual schools in an attempt to answer the question, "How are our schools doing?". The scorecard uses objective, publicly-available data to rate and rank the schools, such as average scores on tests provided by provincial education ministries.
