Understanding The Electricity Bill pt. 1
Since I don't have the Tenants electricity bill, I am using an example.
This example is for someone who lives very modestly already.
She lives alone, and uses most of her electricity in the morning time because she is gone at work during the afternoon, and in bed by 8 at night - so she is very conscious of her usage and keeps it at a minimum.
As you can see in the graph, this is here average monthly bill (outside of July and August), so while maintaining very minimal usage - she is still pushing around $130-$140/mo.
Her rates have steadily increased over the past 5 years, when her average utility bill was around $80; now it is averaging over $130.
Understanding The Electricity Bill pt. 2
This example is for a family of 4, as you can see - their usage is much different, and their cost of electricity is much higher.
I wanted to make sure I showed you both sides of this, and not just be biased in my examples.
The first example shows that if you live alone, and are modest in your usage - you will spend close to $150/mo.
If you are a family of 4, and you are living comfortably - your usage and cost of electricity will be much higher.
Why Are Electricity Bills in Southern California Increasing?
- Rising Electricity Rates: Southern California, particularly SCE customers, face increasing electricity prices.
- Limited Options: Consumers must pay higher rates or risk power cutoffs.
- Frequent Outages: Unforeseen blackouts lead to days without electricity.
- Out-of-State Generation: Electricity is produced out-of-state and transported via an aging grid, incurring extra costs at each substation.
- Monopoly Concerns: SCE is perceived as a public monopoly, with customers feeling like mere numbers rather than valued clients.
Electricity Costs vs. Inflation
Rapid Rise: Electricity prices are increasing much faster than anticipated, surpassing gasoline costs by nearly 50%.
Aging Infrastructure: Upgrades and maintenance of old energy systems elevate costs.
Renewable Energy Transition: High initial investments in solar and wind technologies contribute to price hikes.
Regulatory Costs: Environmental and sustainability regulations impose additional financial burdens on utilities.
Demand vs. Supply: Increased consumption of electricity, partly due to the rise of electronic devices and electric vehicles, pressures supply, pushing prices up.
Economic Effects: Higher electricity costs impact manufacturing, consumer spending, and widen socio-economic disparities.
Energy Efficiency: Escalating costs incentivize investments in energy-saving technologies and conservation practices.
Policy and Innovation Need: Highlights the necessity for innovative energy solutions and policy adjustments to balance affordability, sustainability, and energy security.

"So, I decided to dip my toes into the whole solar energy thing, and I gotta say, Peak Energy Consultants really came through for me.
I wanted someone who knew their stuff without making me feel like I'm sitting in a college lecture, you know? And that's exactly how these guys rolled. They were friendly, super informed, and made the whole process feel like a breeze. I had a bunch of questions, and they had the answers - no jargon, just straight talk.
They popped over to my place, did some measurements and really took the time to understand what I was looking for. They laid out my options, and I didn’t feel pressured to pick the priciest one. They even gave me the 411 on all the California rebates and incentives. Score!
On installation day, they were punctual and professional. They had everything they needed and they were up on my roof faster than you can say ‘solar panels’. It was clear they knew what they were doing. They got the job done efficiently and left no mess behind. They even walked me through how to monitor the system and make the most of it.
What’s super impressive is how they’ve stayed in touch. It’s not a ‘thanks and goodbye’ kinda deal. They genuinely want to make sure everything’s running smoothly.
My electricity bills have taken a nice dive, and I’m feeling great about doing my bit for the environment.
So, if you're thinking solar, I seriously recommend giving Peak Energy Consultants a call. They’re personable, they know their solar, and they genuinely care about making sure you’re set up for success.
Two thumbs up and five shiny stars from me!"

The next step is having you sign the HIA - Home Inspection Agreement. This will help us to schedule our survey team to check your electrical panel, and make sure there aren't any surprises before we begin installing. Looking forward to getting this project started for you!
